چکیده

Abstract Key Message The patterns of induced chemical defences in Quercus ilex leaves are specific to the biotic stress factor that causes them. Interactive effects between stressors depend on provenance. forests suffering serious decline worldwide, closely linked consequences climate change. increase threatens survival holm oak ( ilex) , a dominant tree species Mediterranean Basin. A better understanding its resistance mechanisms is urgently required enable control decline. In this work, ability oaks from six Iberian provenances respond multiple damage studied through an analysis their defence patterns. Using 2016 seedlings established common garden trial (6 regions × 12 families/region 7 seedlings/family 4 treatments), was at root level (by infection with widespread pathogen Phytophthora cinnamomi ) and above-ground mechanical defoliation). levels constitutive total phenols, tannins condensed were measured. Results showed (1) defensive present significant local geographical variation, (2) more related than ones, (3) response stressor-specific, (4) there interactive effect amongst whose sign (induction/inhibition) depends These findings stressor can contribute development genetic material selection programs integrated .

Conservation of genetic diversity in artificially regenerated holm oak (Quercus ilex L.) populations

Reforestation with autochthonous species should take into account the preservation of the variability and the geographical structure of genetic diversity in forest species. In order to provide empirical data, genetic composition of an artificial population of holm oak (Quercus ilex L.) and its natural seed-origin population in Andalusia were analysed with six microsatellite loci. The genetic di...

Drought tolerance and transplanting performance of holm oak (Quercus ilex) seedlings after drought hardening in the nursery.

Drought stress is the main cause of mortality of holm oak (Quercus ilex L.) seedlings in forest plantations. We therefore assessed if drought hardening, applied in the nursery at the end of the growing season, enhanced the drought tolerance and transplanting performance of holm oak seedlings. Seedlings were subjected to three drought hardening intensities (low, moderate and severe) for 2.5 and ...

Vertebrate predation on Holm Oak, Quercus ibex, acorns in a fragmented habitat: effects on seedling recruitment

Rodent and avian consumption of Holm Oak, Quercus ilex, acorns were examined in central Spain during two high-production seasons, 1990-1991 and 1993-1994, in 1 and 3 large stands and in 6 and 10 small stands (0.2-12 ha) respectively, to study the effects of vertebrate predation on seedling recruitment. Previous data indicate that wood mouse abundance is much higher in small stands. Tree size, f...

Remobilization of acorn nitrogen for seedling growth in holm oak (Quercus ilex), cultivated with contrasting nutrient availability.

The relative contribution of nitrogen (N) reserves from seeds or uptake by the roots to the growth and N content of young seedlings has received little attention. In this study, we investigated the contribution of N from the acorn or uptake by the roots to the N content of holm oak (Quercus ilex L.) seedlings and determined if remobilization of acorn N was affected by nutrient availability in t...
